Call for Applications: Gender and Youth Advocacy Officer
The Regional Marine Centre (RMC) at the University of Ghana is seeking a Gender and Youth Advocacy Officer to support the final phase of the GMES & Africa Programme—Phase 2. This role is essential for promoting gender equity, youth involvement, and advocacy for women’s participation in fisheries conservation and marine resource management.
About the Regional Marine Centre (RMC)
The RMC is a regional hub specializing in marine and coastal environmental research. It utilizes Earth Observation (EO) technology to inform policy and resource management across North and West Africa. The center’s work supports sustainable marine ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, improved livelihoods, and food security.
Position Details
Contract Period: 1st April – 31st July 2025 (Full-time)
Location: Regional Marine Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana
Key Responsibilities
The Gender and Youth Advocacy Officer will:
Develop and implement communication and outreach strategies targeting youth and marginalized groups in fisheries and coastal conservation.
Provide strategic guidance for women’s empowerment and youth participation in regional and national policies related to marine and coastal resource management.
Build partnerships to promote skills development for women and youth in EO, technology, and innovation.
Support stakeholder engagement activities and represent the project in meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Assist in reporting and documentation for the closure of GMES & Africa Programme - Phase 2.
Undertake any other responsibilities assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Assess the influence of the MarCNoWA project on youth and women during the implementation of the GMES Phase II.
Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in Fisheries, Marine Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related field.
At least 5 years of professional experience in gender and youth advocacy, fisheries management, or marine conservation.
Demonstrated expertise in engaging women and youth in innovation and sustainable fisheries initiatives, or related fields.
Strong expertise in women and youth engagement in sustainable fisheries initiatives.
Experience in capacity-building programmes for marginalized groups.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience with regional and international organizations in gender and youth projects is a plus.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Execution of gender and youth advocacy initiatives.
Implementation of effective communication strategies for youth and women in fisheries.
Strengthening partnerships in gender, youth, and marine conservation.
Contribution to the GMES & Africa Programme closure and impact reporting - Phase 2.
